Abstract

Understanding landslide disaster risk, increasing public awareness, and improving monitoring technologies are key aspects that contribute, among others, to mitigating landslide risk, as also emphasized in the Kyoto (UN 2020) Commitment for Global Promotion of Understanding and Reducing Landslide Disaster Risk. To this end, the present technical note shows the recent development of the IdroGEO web platform as an innovative tool for landslide knowledge and dissemination in Italy. This improvement has been realized in response to both the new requests that emerged from users and the new requirements due to the extensive use of the platform itself. The platform, focused on landslides and floods and developed by ISPRA in 2020, has been upgraded to version 2.0 within the framework of the Geosciences IR project. The new version includes several enhancements, both in terms of new tools and data, aimed at improving the visualization and mapping of landslides, facilitating communication and dissemination of information, and allowing consultation of the National Register of in situ landslide monitoring systems. All the data and results obtained confirm that IdroGEO 2.0 serves as a key tool in landslide risk management strategy in Italy, supporting data collection, visualization, and dissemination. This is further evidenced by the growing public interest, with over 270,000 users accessing the platform and more than 14 million pages being viewed to date.
