Abstract

Although three genera of Bythinini are known from East Asia, Bythoxenites Jeannel, Bryaxis Kugelann and Tychobythinus Ganglbauer, only Bryaxis has been reported in Korea, and no phylogenetic research has been conducted. We report new records of the genus Tychobythinus in Korea and describe T . rasiligulus sp. n. New records of Bryaxis asciicornis Kurbatov are also reported. An annotated catalogue and identification key to Korean Bryaxis are provided. Phylogenetic analyses of Korean Bythinini were performed based on a molecular dataset with six gene loci. Images of antennae and aedeagi were mapped onto the resulting tree to infer the correlation between molecular evolution and antennal characters. Our results support the monophyly of Bythinini, Bryaxis and Tychobythinus . Within Bryaxis , secondary sexual characters in the antennal scapes and/or pedicels appear to serve as synapomorphies for each clade.
