Taxonomic Revision of Fenouilia and Lithoglyphopsis (Gastropoda, Pomatiopsidae): Synonymy Confirmed by Molecular and Morphological Data With New Species From Southern China

Abstract
China harbours remarkable yet understudied diversity in Pomatiopsidae, with many taxa overlooked due to minute shell sizes and morphological convergence. Through integrative taxonomic analysis of the endemic genus Fenouilia across southern China, we demonstrate that Lithoglyphopsis Thiele, 1928 is a junior synonym of Fenouilia Heude, 1889, supported by both morphological synapomorphies and multilocus phylogenetic analyses (COI, 16S, 18S and 28S). We further synonymize Fenouilia sinensis (Bavay & Dautzenberg, 1910) and Lithoglyphus taliensis Annandale, 1924 with F. kreitneri (Neumayr, 1880) and transfer two species from Jullienia and Hubendickia to Fenouilia : F. carinata (Fulton, 1904) comb. nov. and F. chinensis (Liu, Wang & Zhang, 1980) comb. nov. Seven new species are described: F. chongzuoensis H. Chen, Z.‐G. Chen, Y.‐M. He & X.‐P. Wu, sp. nov., F. guangxiensis H. Chen, H.‐Q. Xiang, Y.‐M. He & X.‐C. Huang, sp. nov., F. kingkongi H. Chen, H.‐Q. Xiang, Y.‐M. He & X.‐P. Wu, sp. nov., F. pengshijii H. Chen, H.‐Q. Xiang, Y.‐M. He & X.‐P. Wu, sp. nov., F. tangkelii H. Chen, H.‐Q. Xiang, Y.‐M. He & X.‐P. Wu, sp. nov., F. yiliangensis H. Chen, H.‐Q. Xiang, Y.‐M. He & X.‐P. Wu, sp. nov. and F. wangzhiyaoi H. Chen, H.‐Q. Xiang, Y.‐M. He & X.‐C. Huang, sp. nov., substantially expanding the known diversity of this genus. Our findings highlight the prevalence of cryptic speciation in Pomatiopsidae and underscore the need for combined morphological‐molecular approaches in freshwater gastropod systematics.
