Abstract
A new genus and species of Cretaceous echinoneoid echinoid, Catinogalerus alexanderi gen. et sp. nov., is described and illustrated on the basis of 27 specimens originating from the Late Campanian of Kronsmoor and Rügen (both northern Germany). Morphologically, the new taxon appears closest to Galerites which it resembles in many aspects. The concave, saucer-shaped apical region, and cone-shaped protrusions of the genital plates are unique characters differentiating C. alexanderi from all other galeritids. Additional distinguishing characters comprise the adoral plate architecture with numerous small ambulacral plates combined with strongly offset pore pairs close to the peristome.
