Abstract
Despite notable progress in the systematics of Phylloporus achieved over the past decade, reexamination of type specimens remains essential for further support in the circumscription of the species, improved identification, robust phylogenetic inferences, and a clearer understanding of species diversity and distribution. Here, we present an updated microscopic morphoanatomical analysis of the type specimens of Phylloporus bellus , Phylloporus centroamericanus , Phylloporus foliiporus , Phylloporus leucomycelinus , and Phylloporus phaeoxanthus (including var. phaeoxanthus and var. simplex ). These taxa, originally described from Singapore or North and Central America, have since been frequently reported from other regions, at times with taxonomic uncertainties. Furthermore, based on the morphological differences observed in the type specimens of the two varieties of P. phaeoxanthus , we propose elevating P. phaeoxanthus var. simplex to species rank. Detailed micromorphological descriptions are provided along with digital photographs of the macro‐ and micromorphological features of type specimens, as well as line drawings. Scanning electron microscope photographs of the basidiospores are also presented.
