Abstract

Decision Methods for Forest Resource Management is a book that describes several modeling approaches that natural resource managers use to help guide decisions. Nine of its 19 chapters are devoted to linear programming and its application to modeling even-aged and uneven-aged forest management. The book also covers goal programming, integer programming, CPM/PERT, dynamic programming, deterministic and stochastic simulation, Markov chains and decision processes, investment analysis, and econometric analysis and forecasting. The examples and the problems presented are relevant to forest management in today's environment. There is a strong emphasis on sustainability, environmental values (including biodiversity), and economics. The book is targeted at senior undergraduate students, graduate students, and professionals involved in natural resource management.
