Human‐induced high densities of large wild herbivores may pose a threat to natural ecosystems, modifying biodiversity and ecosystem functioning. Although the negative impacts on individual taxa and processes are well documented, a comprehensive understanding of how ecosystem integrity responds to high herbivore densities remains limited. This study addresses this gap through an extensive herbivore‐density manipulation experime...

The response of N 2 fixation to projected future conditions in the ocean cannot be reliably predicted to date. We conducted a minicosm experiment with pre-acclimated cultures of the globally significant diazotroph Crocosphaera watsonii strain WH8501 (“ Crocosphaera ”). PH and temperature were altered simultaneously to match the RCP scenarios 4.5 and 6 and investigate a more realistic future scenario compared to studies that fo...

The oceanic dissolved organic phosphorus (DOP) pool is mainly composed of P-esters and, to a lesser extent, equally abundant phosphonate and P-anhydride molecules. In phosphate-limited ocean regions, diazotrophs are thought to rely on DOP compounds as an alternative source of phosphorus (P). While both P-esters and phosphonates effectively promote dinitrogen (N 2 ) fixation, the role of P-anhydrides for diazotrophs is unknown....
