An expedition to North Meyer Island, Kermadec Islands, in November 2015, resulted in the isolation of two Gambierdiscus species, G. australes and a previously unknown Gambierdiscus species maintained in the Cawthron Institute Culture Collection of Micro‐algae as CAWD242.
