Larval fish assemblages were sampled using replicated oblique bongo net tows along a five‐station transect extending from inshore (18 m depth) to offshore waters (1000 m depth) off temperate south‐western Australia. A harmonic‐analysis technique is used to compute tidal amplitudes and phases over the south‐west Pacific Ocean from the first 300 cycles (up to November 2000) of TOPEX/Poseidon satellite altimetry.
