Marine vessel traffic is a significant contributor to anthropogenic noise pollution and a source of disturbance for many marine species. It is important to assess the impact of vessel visitation and the number of potential disturbance events at sensitive marine sites to ensure management strategies are adequate. This study integrated passive acoustic monitoring (PAM), direct visual observation, and vessel traffic data to monit...

Purpose Niclosamide is approved as an oral anthelminthic, but its low oral bioavailability hinders its medical use requiring high drug exposure outside the gastrointestinal tract. An optimized solution of niclosamide for nebulization and intranasal administration using the ethanolamine salt has been developed and tested in a Phase 1 trial. In this study we investigate the pulmonary exposure of niclosamide following administrat...

Key message Here, we provide an updated set of guidelines for naming genes in wheat that has been endorsed by the wheat research community. Abstract The last decade has seen a proliferation in genomic resources for wheat, including reference- and pan-genome assemblies with gene annotations, which provide new opportunities to detect, characterise, and describe genes that influence traits of interest. The expansion of genetic in...

The role of rainbow trout ( Oncorhynchus mykiss , Walbaum) gill cells in uptake of the salmonid pathogen Renibacterium salmoninarum was examined using in vitro , whole animal and isolated perfused head models. Uptake of the pathogen was observed only when dissected gill tissue was exposed to the live pathogen. In contrast, live cells of Yersinia ruckeri interacted with the gill epithelia in the isolated perfused head model, co...

The distribution of plant species with respect to soil pH and conductivity was determined at two sites in Central Otago. About 20 species, only eight of them native, were recorded on soils of moderate or greater salinity (conductivity >800 μS/cm) and pH >7.0 at these sites, but a further four native species occur in similar habitat elsewhere in Central Otago. Species formed four ecological groups determined mainly by soil pH r...
