Cities and suburbs frequently plant native and non-native trees as foundation species, with non-natives cultivated in these areas for centuries while remaining non-invasive. Although previous research has found that native trees often host more arthropods, studies have not simultaneously looked across space and time to determine the consistency of tree origin on urban arthropods. We combined varied methods across spatial and t...

There is now a wealth of glass‐shard geochemical data for volcanic ash (tephra) layers from a wide range of volcanoes and eruptions, providing invaluable datasets for tephrochronology. However, compilation of published data to assess tephra correlations leads to large files and requires careful management. Here, we show that a project within the IntChron Integration Tool (Ramsey et al., 2019), an open‐access and versatile onli...

A common problem when combining data on species' traits from multiple sources is that researchers often measure the same trait in different ways. For example, the length of a shark can be measured in a straight‐line or over‐the‐body, and for lengths that include the tail (e.g., fork and total lengths), with the tail in ‘stretched’ or ‘natural’ position. Statistical models comparing one variant to another can be used to standar...

We have attempted to re-establish bay scallops to the Virginia, U.S.A. coastal bays and document the dynamics of the restoration effort. Bay scallops ( Argopecten irradians ) once flourished in the eelgrass ( Zostera marina ) of the Virginia coastal bays. Eelgrass wasting disease led to declines, and both eelgrass and scallops were completely lost after a 1933 hurricane. The Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS) led a su...
