Emergent marsh and open water have been identified as alternate stable states in tidal marshes with large, relative differences in hydrogeomorphic conditions. In the Florida coastal Everglades, concern has been raised regarding the loss of non-tidal, coastal peat marsh via dieback of emergent vegetation and peat collapse. To aid in the identification of alternate stable states, our objective was to characterize the variability...

Trace element concentrations in abyssal peridotite olivine provide insights into the formation and evolution of the oceanic lithosphere. We present olivine trace element compositions (Al, Ca, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Co, Ni, Zn, Y, Yb) from abyssal peridotites to investigate partial melting, melt–rock interaction, and subsolidus cooling at mid-ocean ridges and intra-oceanic forearcs. We targeted 44 peridotites from fast (Hess Deep, East...

The PV2 (Celio 1990), a cluster of parvalbumin-positive neurons located in the ventromedial region of the distal periaqueductal gray (PAG) has not been previously described as its own entity, leading us to study its extent, connections, and gene expression. It is an oval, bilateral, elongated cluster composed of approximately 475 parvalbumin-expressing neurons in a single mouse hemisphere. In its anterior portion it impinges u...

Basalts and peridotites from mid-ocean ridges record f O2 near the quartz-fayalite-magnetite buffer (QFM), but peridotite partial melting experiments have mostly been performed in graphite capsules (~ QFM-3), precluding evaluation of ferric iron’s behavior during basalt generation. We performed experiments at 1.5 GPa, 1350–1400 °C, and f O2 from about QFM-3 to QFM+3 to investigate the anhydrous partitioning behavior of Fe 2 O...

We present 8 yr of long‐term water quality, climatological, and water management data for 17 locations in Everglades National Park, Florida. Total phosphorus (P) concentration data from freshwater sites (typically −1 , or 8 µg L −1 ) indicate the oligotrophic, P‐limited nature of this large freshwater—estuarine landscape. Total P concentrations at estuarine sites near the Gulf of Mexico (average ~0.5 µmol L −1 ) demonstrate th...
