Motivation SNAPSHOT USA is an annual, multi‐contributor camera trap survey of mammals across the United States. The growing SNAPSHOT USA dataset is intended for tracking the spatial and temporal responses of mammal populations to changes in land use, land cover and climate. These data will be useful for exploring the drivers of spatial and temporal changes in relative abundance and distribution, as well as the impacts of speci...

Introduction Picocyanobacteria from the genera Prochlorococcus and Synechococcus thrive across the globe in aquatic environments, have relatively small genomes, and have growth dynamics regulated by both viral interactions and abiotic conditions, making them excellent model organisms for exploring host-pathogencoevolution. Methods We developed and refined methods to sample and sequence cyanobacteria, cyanophages, and measured...

Aim To investigate effects of anthropogenic development at regional and landscape scales on the distributions of mid‐trophic level mammalian predators (mesopredators) across the southeastern United States. Location The study area encompasses seven ecoregions across a large portion of the southeastern United States. Taxon Mammalian mesopredators. Methods We compiled trail camera data from 21 studies across the southeastern Unit...

Introduction Numerous pharmacological classes of compounds have been explored as novel and efficacious alternatives to standard mu opioid agonist analgesics. We and others have described G-protein biased kappa opioid agonists as having potential utility as analgesics due to a lower propensity to produce sedation and dysphoria, which are thought to be mediated in large part through beta-arrestin signaling. Methods Here we compa...
Plant Cell, Tissue and Organ Culture (PCTOC) · 2025 · Vol. 162 · Issue 3 · Springer
A survey of 500 recent peer-reviewed papers citing the use of MS medium for plant tissue culture has revealed that 358 (72%) of these published studies have inappropriately defined the composition of the MS medium used. This reveals that most authors do not appreciate the composition of the MS medium they have used. We encourage greater accuracy when describing the composition of all culture media used in biological sciences.

Defensive traits are hypothesized to benefit prey by reducing predation risk from a focal predator but come at a cost to the fitness of the prey. Variation in the expression of defensive traits is seen among individuals within the same population, and in the same individual in response to changes in the environment (i.e., phenotypically plastic responses). It is the relative magnitude of the cost and benefit of the defensive t...

SNAPSHOT USA is a multicontributor, long‐term camera trap survey designed to survey mammals across the United States. Participants are recruited through community networks and directly through a website application ( https://www.snapshot-usa.org/ ). The growing Snapshot dataset is useful, for example, for tracking wildlife population responses to land use, land cover, and climate changes across spatial and temporal scales. Her...

Main conclusion Agrobacterium -mediated transformation of Nicotiana tabacum , using an intragenic T-DNA region derived entirely from the N. tabacum genome, results in the equivalence of micro-translocations within genomes. Abstract Intragenic Agrobacterium -mediated gene transfer was achieved in Nicotiana tabacum using a T-DNA composed entirely of N. tabacum DNA, including T-DNA borders and the acetohydroxyacid synthase gene c...

Wetlands cover a small portion of the world, but have disproportionate influence on global carbon (C) sequestration, carbon dioxide and methane emissions, and aquatic C fluxes. However, the underlying biogeochemical processes that affect wetland C pools and fluxes are complex and dynamic, making measurements of wetland C challenging. Over decades of research, many observational, experimental, and analytical approaches have bee...

Phytoplankton primary production in the Arctic Ocean has been increasing over the last two decades. In 2019, a record spring bloom occurred in Fram Strait, characterized by a peak in chlorophyll that was reached weeks earlier than in other years and was larger than any previously recorded May bloom. Here, we consider the conditions that led to this event and examine drivers of spring phytoplankton blooms in Fram Strait using i...
