Summary In the surface waters of the warm oligotrophic ocean, filaments and aggregated colonies of the nitrogen (N)‐fixing cyanobacterium Trichodesmium create microscale nutrient‐rich oases. These hotspots fuel primary productivity and harbour a diverse consortium of heterotrophs.
