The Jiangnan Orogen has long been recognized as an ideal location for Precambrian geologists to study Neoproterozoic tectonic movements. However, the paleogeographic location of the South China Craton within the Rodinia supercontinent and the associated geodynamic mechanisms remain contentious. This research presents results from Laser Ablation Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (LA‐ICP‐MS) zircon U–Pb dating, whole‐...

Triassic turbidites dominate the Songpan–Ganzi–Bayan Har (SGBH) terrane of the northern Tibetan Plateau. U‐Pb dating on single detrital zircon grains from the Triassic Bayan Har Group turbidites yield peaks at 400–500 m.y., 900–1000 m.y., 1800–1900 m.y., and 2400–2500 m.y., These results are consistent with recently published U‐Pb zircon ages of pre‐Triassic bedrock in the East Kunlun, Altyn, Qaidam, Qilian and Alaxa areas to...

A mafic granulite body was newly discovered in the Altay Orogenic Belt, northwest China. The rocks comprise a suite of coarse‐grained and fine‐grained granulites. Orthopyroxenes (hypersthenes) in the rocks have high X Mg and low Al 2 O 3 contents, whereas clinopyroxenes have low TiO 2 and Al 2 O 3 contents. Amphiboles and biotites have a high Mg/(Mg + Fe 2+ ) ratio and low contents of F and Cl. The peak metamorphic pressure–te...

Major and trace elements and Sm–Nd isotopic data are presented for metabasites that are present as lenses within Paleozoic metasediments in the Chenxing and Bangxi regions, central Hainan Island, Southeast (SE) China. Most metabasites are metamorphosed cumulated gabbroic rocks tholeiitic in nature, and characterized by varying degrees of depletion in Th, Nb, Ta and light rare earth elements (LREE). Moreover, they show high pos...
