Stable isotope analysis of green turtle ( Chelonia mydas ) scutes provides insights into long-term dietary patterns (~ 6.5 years). We analysed δ¹³C and δ¹⁵N values from nesting turtles in the Red Sea and combined these with macrophyte isotope data from the literature. Bayesian mixing models estimated dietary contributions by habitat and taxa. Seagrass meadows were the dominant inferred carbon source, contributing 90.1 ± 4.7%,...

The development of aquafeed is indeed crucial for maintaining sustainability in aquaculture. Conventional plant‐based protein meals, such as soybean meal, canola meal, DDGS, cottonseed, corn meal, and their combinations have been extensively explored in aquafeed used in fed‐aquaculture systems. Nevertheless, endeavors and scholarly interest in incorporating non‐conventional plant‐based feed ingredients (NPFIs) with nutritional...

Marine megafauna species are affected by a wide range of anthropogenic threats. To evaluate the risk of such threats, species’ vulnerability to each threat must first be determined. We build on the existing threats classification scheme and ranking system of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species by assessing the vulnerability of 256 marine megafauna species to 23 at‐sea threat...

The Asia-Pacific Region (APR) encompasses a vast geographical area rich in marine biodiversity that plays critical roles in global ecological stability and climate regulation, but it also faces daunting challenges in maintaining these roles under global change. Environmental dynamics in the APR manifest regularly over a range of timescales, including storms, earthquakes, floods, and extreme heat events. Further, coastal and ma...

Major aggregations of nesting green turtles ( Chelonia mydas ) occur in the northern Red Sea, although little is known about the reproductive ecology of this endangered species in the region. To address this issue, we satellite-tracked 30 female green turtles to document their movements and to identify factors driving habitat use at two major rookeries in the Red Sea, Jazirat Mashabah (Mashabah Island) and Ras Al Baridi in Sau...

The expression and digestive activity of pike silverside Chirostoma estor endogenous chitinases were analysed in samples from four life stages: whole eggs; larvae; juvenile intestine and hepatopancreas and adult intestine and hepatopancreas. A chitinase cDNA was cloned and partially sequenced ( GenBank accession number: FJ785521 ). It was highly homologous to non‐acidic chitinase sequences from other fish species, suggesting t...
