Estuaries and Coasts · 2026 · Vol. 49 · Issue 6 · Springer
Low-inflow estuaries are highly variable and productive habitats. Organisms in these systems must cope with constantly changing conditions. This study investigates the continuous response of oysters to environmental stimuli in a small, low-inflow, estuary, Los Peñasquitos Lagoon (LPL), in San Diego, California, USA. The oysters were placed on a mooring at near-surface and near-bottom locations and instrumented with noninvasive...
Reviews in Aquaculture · 2019 · Vol. 11 · Issue 2 · Wiley
Genetic improvement is key to the development of a more efficient aquaculture industry. By 2010, there were 104 breeding programmes for aquaculture species in the world, most of them for fish species. Usually, the breeding goals include traits such as growth rate, disease resistance, maturation and carcass quality. Resistance to specific pathogens has been one of the main objectives of research and development in the genetic i...

Fisheries Oceanography · 2008 · Vol. 17 · Issue 4 · Wiley
We describe findings of three ichthyoplankton surveys undertaken along south‐eastern Australia during spring (October 2002, 2003) and winter (July 2004) to examine spawning habitat and dynamics of blue mackerel ( Scomber australasicus ). Surveys covered ∼860 nautical miles between southern Queensland (Qld; 24.6°S) and southern New South Wales (NSW; 41.7°S), and were mainly centred on the outer shelf including the shelf break....
Fisheries Oceanography · 2008 · Vol. 17 · Issue 4 · Wiley
We present findings of the first mesoscale study linking larval fish assemblages and water masses along shelf waters off south‐eastern Australia (southern Queensland‐New South Wales), based on vertical, non‐depth discriminate data from surveys in October 2002 and 2003 (spring) and July 2004 (winter). Clustering and ordination were employed to discriminate between larval assemblages and, for the first time, to define water mass...

The first population of mosquitofish, Gambusia holbrooki , was discovered in a wetland area of the upper Tamar Estuary, northern Tasmania, Australia, in November 2000. We report aspects of the structure and reproductive biology of this population, based on 1567 fish collected between August 2001 and January 2002. Females dominated most catches. Maximum lengths were 48.9 and 23.6 mm standard length (SL) for females and males, r...
