Horizontally transferred genes (HTGs) play a key role in animal symbiosis, and some horizontally transferred genes or proteins are highly expressed in specialized host cells (bacteriocytes). However, it is not clear how HTGs are regulated, but microRNAs (miRNAs) are prime candidates given their previously demonstrated roles in symbiosis and impacts on the expression of host genes. A horizontally acquired PanBC that is highly e...

The Ninety East Ridge is a submarine north–south oriented volcanic ridge in the eastern Indian Ocean. Surface-layer ichthyoplankton collected in this area from September to October were identified by combined morphological and molecular (DNA barcoding) techniques, and their species composition, diversity, and abundance, and correlations with environmental variables were described. Collections comprised 109 larvae and 507 eggs,...

Summary A LuxI/R‐like quorum sensing (QS) system (AfeI/R) has been reported in the acidophilic and chemoautotrophic Acidithiobacillus spp. However, the function of AfeI/R remains unclear because of the difficulties in the genetic manipulation of these bacteria. Here, we constructed different afeI mutants of the sulfur‐ and iron‐oxidizer A . ferrooxidans , identified the N‐acyl homoserine lactones (acyl‐HSLs) synthesized by Afe...

Key message Background-independent (BI) and stably expressed (SE) quantitative trait loci (QTLs) were identified using two sets of introgression lines across multiple environments. Genetic background more greatly affected fiber quality traits than environmental factors. Sixty-one SE-QTLs, including two BI-QTLs, were novel and 48 SE-QTLs, including seven BI-QTLs, were previously reported. Abstract Cotton fiber quality traits ar...
